It's no surprise that Aaron Lewis of Staind fame and now one of the hottest country musicians on tour, is as American as they get. His love for this country and the those who protect it is unwavering. We had the amazing opportunity to spend time with him here in Riverside, one of the stops on his Sinner Tour, and present him with an amazing custom built guitar built by Galletta Guitars, one of best Master Guitar Builders around.
We started off with a piece of wood from Texas. This wasn't "just" a piece of wood. It was 1800s vintage Texas barn wood donated by the fine folks at Tough Country and Tin Roof Home, a company that specialized in hand-crafted wood products from their ranch in El Campo, Texas. When we came up with the idea of a vintage, 2nd Amendment guitar for Aaron, Brent Pratka was the first person I called about selecting the right piece of wood. Brent said, "I know exactly what you need."
The wood was shipped to Galletta Guitars in Hemet, CA. Galletta Guitars has made some of the finest stringed instruments around and many of them are played by well-known musicians like Warren Haynes (Govt Mule), Michael O'Dorn (Chet Atkins Finger Picker), Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel), Steve Lukather (Toto), James DePrato (Chuck Prophet Band), Michael Angelo (Nitro), Chris Rodriguez (Kenny Loggins), Greg Allman (Allman Brothers), Carl Wilson (Beach Boys), Wayne Turner (Hank Williams Jr), Allen Woody (Allman Brothers) ,and many more. With the 2nd Amendment theme in mind, Eric Galletta masterfully inlaid .25 caliber head stamps into the fret board. Otto Carter, master engraver, engraved a piece of nickle bonded brass for the pick guard and control plate. 50 caliber head stamps were used for the volume and tone knobs and a ZEX Coil was used for the pickup. Jeremiah Savoy of Savoy Leather hand-crafted a custom guitar strap that Aaron was in awe of. It had the same "Join or Die" snake with Aaron's name on it that was engraved on the pick guard. Not only did the guitar look amazing, it also sounded amazing as Aaron took the stage for the night leading off with the National Anthem.
